My Favorite: Fruits

Sometimes, when I really want to get to know someone I ask them what their top five favorite fruits are. Most of the time, they think I'm crazy...but it is a completely appropriate question, or at least I think it is. So I'm going to answer this one so maybe you can get to know me a little better.

Disclaimer: this is one of the hardest lists for me to make, because fruit is something I literally can't get enough of, and also its difficult for me to narrow it down to just five.

1. Bananas
the main reason why bananas are my number one favorite fruit is because of their versatility and accessibility. they are good frozen, natural, cooked, mashed, and all of the above. also, they are super cheap and can be found most anywhere.
pro tip: wait until bananas are spotty, thats when all the starch has formed into sugars that your body can digest, causing easy and quick digestion.

2. Apples
apples are a close runner up to bananas, also because of how versatile they are. they are also super easy to take on the go, because there is practically no clean up, or leftovers that you have to worry about! going to school in the mountains definitely makes me appreciate this beautiful fruit even more, especially in the fall when they can be found almost everywhere.
pro tip: don't you dare take that peeling off! the apple peel has so much fiber and nutrients in it, your basically throwing away the benefits when you don't eat the peeling, so keep your apples clothed! and if you have a few extra bucks lying around, buy organic especially since you'll be eating that peeling!

3. Cantaloupe
ever since I was little, I have had a very intimate relationship to cantaloupe. I grew up being the one that would eat the entire bowl before anyone could get to it, and I still do. It is so juicy and I just love the texture. they are even better in the summer! ahhhhh I can taste it now just thinking about it.
pro tip: as hard as it is, wait until the summer to buy cantaloupe that's when it's in season and will taste the best. also, by knowing its in season means it didn't travel half-way across the world to get to the grocery store.

4. Mango
there is no need to convince anyone about how good mango is, it is simply perfect. from mango smoothies, to mango salsa, it is so versatile. my favorite way to eat it is frozen, right out of the bag. yummmmmm!
pro tip: eat a mango ASAP

5. Blueberries
blueberries are just an amazing little fruit, especially in the summer when I can pick them right off the bush....and don't even get me started on the health benefits of blueberries! they are perfect to freeze and use in smoothies, or throw in oatmeal, or even just to soak in your water for a flavored water.
pro tip: in the summer, go to a local blueberry picking field and pick and pick and pick until your hands hurt, then rinse them off and throw them in freezer bags and put them in the freezer so you can enjoy them in the middle of winter!
